A save has no summary

A summary is usually ready about a minute after you save a link. If it is not, the item carries a label that says why. This page helps you read that label and fix it.

Symptoms

  • The item is in your feed with a label such as Needs a key, Stuck, Failed or Couldn't open.
  • You open the item and see "This is taking a while" or "Couldn't summarize" instead of a summary.
  • The feed shows the banner Add your API key to get summaries.
  • On a computer, the bottom of the left sidebar says No API key.

Checks

  1. Open the item. The space where the summary goes says what is wrong.
  2. Open Settings, then AI model. Under OpenRouter key, look for "Key saved. It is not shown again." If the field is empty, you have no key yet.
  3. If the item is an Instagram link, open Settings, then Capture, and check that the Instagram row says Saved.
  4. Log in to openrouter.ai and check that your account still has credit.
  5. Wait five minutes after saving. An item becomes Stuck only after five minutes with no answer.

Fixes

What you seeFix
Needs a key, or "Add your OpenRouter key in Settings to get summaries."Press Go to Settings and save your key. See Get an OpenRouter key. Items waiting for a key are summarized once a key that works is saved. You do not need to save them again.
"Add a SociaVault key in Settings to read Instagram posts."Press Go to Settings and save a SociaVault key under Instagram.
"Your OpenRouter key isn't working. Fix it in Settings › AI model."Press Fix it in Settings, create a new key on openrouter.ai and paste it in.
"Your OpenRouter account is out of credit. Add credit at openrouter.ai, then try again."Add credit on openrouter.ai, then press Try again on the item.
Stuck or "This is taking a while"Press Try again.
Couldn't openThe page could not be opened. Press Try again, or Open link to check that the page still exists.
Failed with any other reasonPress Try again. If it fails the same way, the page may not be readable.

TIP

When you save a key that works, the message tells you how many items it put back in the queue, for example "Key works, summarizing 3 items".

If many saves are affected, open the Waiting page from Settings, Capture, Waiting saves. It lists every save that needs you. The Needs your key group has a Fix it in Settings link and the Couldn't open group has a Try again all button.

If the label is Waiting for full text or Waiting for transcript, see A page stays waiting instead.
